If your flight is really late…once we had an 10:00 P.M. There are summer activities up there, open shops, zip lines, a lift ride to the top, and meadow hikes. You will enjoy your short time in Whitefish and Big Mountain…try to get there as early as you can before the galleries close and then make your way up to the Mountain. From there the road is beautiful and quite fast unless you end up behind RV's…but there are also some passing areas. You will come to Goat Lick turn off but you may want to forego that if you have had your fill of goats at Logan Pass. Along #2, you will notice the avalanche sheds over the railroad next to the river. Glacier Lodge's famous atrium lobby…it is the most spectacular in the park and you can pick up a snack there if the timing is right. You CAN join #2 by going to Browning but doing so is time consuming and you will want the extra for Whitefish.Ī tempting stop will be a drive down to Two Medicine Valley, but that may take up too much of your time for this trip and you may have already been there during your Babb stay? At any rate, also stop to see the E. I personally would NOT miss that route since you are lucky enough to have the chance. That part of the road meanders along and is two lane…then the #49 cut across…the main thing is that speeds are slow along there because it wanders through some Native American lands and has free range cattle and horses along it. You will see expansive views along it…high mountains on the west and the vast open prairies of the Great Plains to the east. Glacier is one of our very favorite drives. Just get an early start because you will be tempted to slow down and stop in several places. #49 is a short cut-across and you will be going slow, I would not worry about that at all…after all you will have already been on GTTS! I also agree with Scott, since you will have seen both sides of the park for many days, the southern route lets you see some different and stunning scenery.
